Crabeater seals are not feeding on large crabs as one might think, but on krill. Their sieve-like teeth are specially adapted to this kind of feeding.

Krabbenfresser-Robben ernähren sich nicht von großen Krabben, wie man denken könnte, sondern von Krill. Ihre siebartigen Zähne sind speziell auf diese Art der Fütterung abgestimmt.

Les phoques crabier ne se nourrissent pas de gros crabes, comme on pourrait le penser, mais de krill. Leurs dents en forme de tamis sont spécialement conçues pour ce type d’alimentation.

The circles on the fluke may be scars resulting from the suction cups of a giant squid.

The yellow patches on the fluke are microalgae which may change or diisappear over time.

This one lived in a colony next to Gonzalez Videla station. Apparantly 1 in 40.000 penguins seems to be leucistic. The penguin is called Lucy and still alive 10 years later in 2020.

Deception Island is the peak of an active vulcano. The centre of the island has been flooded by the sea after a huge eruption. The last eruption occurred in 1970.

Beginning of the 20th century the whaling industry discovered the island. Whales were towed into the bay and processed in a factory.
